Wheat and weeds
Matthew 13:24-30
The Kingdom of Heaven is like a man sowing good seed in his field.
This is a story about good seed vs bad seed, wheat vs weeds. And in this parable the soil is a constant, it is fertile and produces a harvest. But what it produces depends on the seed that was sown.
The Landowner only sowed good seed. Where did the bad seed come from— from the enemy.
Now it is interesting that the weeds appeared only after the stalk sprouted and began producing fruit. The owner allowed them to grow together producing both their stalk and harvest. The owner was careful not to take the weeds out too early because that could disrupt the roots of the wheat causing harm to the plant. And it is not until the end of the harvest that the two get separated.
So in looking at this parable we are told that it is the enemy who sows the weeds. And he chooses his time carefully, when the plant is beginning to bear fruit. The enemy’s goal is to influence the harvest —to kill, steal and destroy the work of the Landowner. The good wheat is surrounded by the bad weeds. We, the sons and daughters, are the good seed of the Kingdom of G-d. And today, aren’t we surrounded by the enemy’s seeds of hatred, strife , sickness, and disease, discontentment , discouragement, and all the other “dis’s”?
How do we still produce a harvest under this present situation? The answer is:
HE DID NOT LEAVE US ALONE!
- He gave us Yeshua(Jesus) the Word of G-d(the entire scripture) to encourage us, giving us the light and the right nutrients we need, not only to grow but to thrive.
- He gave us Holy Spirit to guide, teach and counsel us; watering and filling us up to overflowing IF we choose to drink.
It is our job to take in the light and food everyday! And to keep our roots, stalk, leaves and fruit continually filled and satisfied with water.
We are called to produce a harvest and not let the cares of this world influence our harvest. The L-rd has called us to be sons and daughters of the Kingdom. He produced only good seed, and placed it in good soil, and only good fruit should be produced with an abundant harvest. He has set us up for a mighty harvest. Our harvest according to the previous parable should be 30, 60, and 100 fold.
I hope you want to join me with the goal of an abundant harvest!
I’m shooting for the 100% increase in my seed. How about you?
