Our Day of Visitation

Genesis 18

Genesis has always been one of my favorite books in the Old Covenant.  I can never get enough of all the treasures that I find in the first book of Moses.  I often find myself in the first 3 chapters with Creation, although today I am focusing on chapter 18 and Abraham.

I am awed by Abraham.  His faithfulness and relationship to Adonai is more than inspiring. When I look at this chapter I can imagine Abraham sitting in the doorway of his tent in the heat of the day.  I have to ask why would he not be inside the tent, in the full shade? Why at the doorway?  The only answer I can think of is that he was expecting something or someone to come by.  Did he know that he was going to have a visit from Adonai that day?

When he looked up and suddenly saw Adonai standing by him with two others, he quickly ran out to meet him.  No hesitation.  He didn’t hide or cower back or show any fear. He showed reverence by bowing “low to the ground.”

He saw an opportunity and wasn’t about to  miss out. He didn’t want to be passed by without notice or consequence.

He blessed his guests by getting them water, food and providing rest. And notice how everything was done quickly, Abraham knew not to delay.   He served them and stood by them while they ate the food he had prepared.  He did not sit down with them but stood by them.  He was ready to get for them anything they would possibly need or want.

This truly was an opportunity that Abraham had to bless the L-rd.

  • Are we ready for our day of visitation?
  • Will we jump up to meet the L-rd when He presents himself to us and not ignore Him passing by?
  • Will we serve him quickly without hesitation?
  • Will we be standing by and near to Him and ready to do His bidding?

With all my heart I hope to answer YES in that day.
