אדם…Adam
The first man, from the dust of the earth he was created. Created in the image and likeness of Elohim. He was to be the first member of G-ds family on Earth.
After the man was created, G-d brought every living creature He made to the man to see what the man would call each one. Whatever he called them that was their name, yet no suitable companion was found for him. G-d caused a deep sleep to come upon him and took a rib from the man to create his companion. These are the first words we hear spoken by Adam:
“Then the man said, “This one, at last, is bone of my bones and flesh from my flesh. This one is called woman, for from man was taken this one.””
Genesis 2:23 TLV
Being in charge of naming the animals, he also took charge of naming the woman. This was Adam’s “pre-fall” state. He was made in Elohim’s likeness and image and “called” as Elohim had called in the first days of creation, the light “day”, darkness “night”, the expanse “sky”, dry ground “land” and collection of water “seas”.
The only other recorded words of Adam is after he ate of the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil, in his “post fall” state.
There is an obvious difference.
“Then he said, “Your sound—I heard it in the garden and I was afraid. Because I am naked, I hid myself.”
Then the man said, “The woman whom You gave to be with me—she gave me of the Tree, and I ate.””
Genesis 3:10,12
The knowledge of good and evil brought fear which overtook the man—in fact he went into hiding. Their is no indication that the man had any fear prior to eating the fruit from the tree that G-d had told him not to eat of.
Fear that moves us to hiding or shrinking back is a gripping fear that wants to control us. Isn’t this what the enemy wants… to keep man today in the same state of disobedience and fear?
We fear the Lord, that is clear in the Word of G-d, but we are to come to him not hide from him.
“Adonai your God you will follow and Him you will fear. His mitzvot (commandments) you will keep, to His voice you will listen, Him you will serve and to Him you will cling.”
Deuteronomy 13:5 TLV
